RACING OIL
Race Car Engine oils requiring an uncompromised protection have a ZDDP level of 2400 parts per million per liter.
Race oil formulas are typically designed with reduced levels of detergents and dispersants to improve performance of the anti-wear and friction modifier chemistries.
Race oil is typically changed very frequently.
Race engines are typically re-built frequently.
DIESEL OIL
API CI-4, CI-4 Plus, CJ-4 oils have a ZDDP level of 1100 parts per million per liter.
In a modern diesel engine there is a substantial exhaust soot contamination that the oil must contend with.
Diesel oil is designed with much higher levels of detergents and dispersants to fight the soot contamination.
Like ZDDP anti-wear chemistry, detergents are a surface active chemistry and compete directly for space on metal surfaces, such as cam lobe and lifter face. So, in practice, the effective level of Zinc anti-wear is a bit lower than what we expect it to be based solely on chemical analysis.
The ZDDP that is generally used in diesel formulas is primary ZDDP (which activates at higher temperatures) since a diesel engine runs predominantly at operating temperature.
Diesels operate at essentially the same rpm all day long and need polymers that are shear stable to protect bearings.
COLLECTOR AUTOMOBILE MOTOR OIL
Produced from high grade mineral oil by Boss Lubricants of Calgary Alberta.
Has a minimum level of ZDDP of 1600 parts per million per liter.
Has the correct detergents and dispersants to prevent deposit formation and sludge formation from contaminates.
Has primary ZDDP, and secondary ZDDP (which activates at lower temperatures).
Has polymers that have both shear stability and thickening efficiency capability to protect bearings.
Has an additive that aids the oil to cling to the moving parts when the engine is stored for long periods of time which helps to prevent dry starts.
Is a available in 15W40 grade.
Now available at all local NAPA Auto Parts store in Southern Alberta.
