Usually we do this without thinking, trusting that all will run smoothly and free of problems. Typically this is true; however, a car is a machine and requires frequent upkeep and maintenance in order to properly work. Knowing when to change the engine oil is essential for every car owner. Without enough oil, the engine may become damaged and the car is not safe to drive. Generally, the oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles or three months. A key sign that the oil needs to be changed is its color. The oil should be transparent and light amber; if it is black, then it is old and definitely needs to be changed. While some people have enough knowledge to change the oil themselves, the easiest way is to take your car into an auto shop or mechanic.

The right amount of pressure in your car’s tires is also a necessity for safety. Check each tire’s pressure once a month; you can do this on your own with an inexpensive tire pressure gauge. Read the owner’s manual to find out the proper tire pressure for your car. Most gas stations have air stations, which makes filling your tires easy and free.

Whenever in doubt, talk with a mechanic. It’s better to fix small problems now than having them turn into big problems later.
